Meet the team: Double Bay Chiropractor Dr. Gabi Fransman is poised to treat back pain and migraines

Double Bay Chiropractor, Dr Gabi Fransman, is a sports fanatic who focusses on back pain relief through chiropractic care and pilates. Passionate about helping patients lead a life full of movement, Gabi keeps active by attending the gym frequently, playing touch football and walking her dog. At Sydney Spine and Sports Clinic, our vision is to help you be mobile. We practice an evidence-based approach of chiropractic care that in turn enables you to make informed and educated decisions about your health. Whether you’re in need of pain relief, injury recovery or wish to improve your overall physical function, we are here to support you all the way!

What inspired you to become a chiropractor?

I’ve always been very sporty. Therefore, I’ve experienced many niggles and injuries over the years and often visited chiropractors and physiotherapists for relief and recovery. When I was sixteen, I sustained a bad back injury. Despite countless appointments with various practitioners, in just a few sessions my chiropractor was able to diagnose my pain, educate me about it, and have me on the road to recovery. I was back on the sports field within three appointments. I knew immediately that chiropractic care was what I wanted to do with my future.

What are your qualifications? Do you have an area of speciality?

I have my Masters of Chiropractic (Macquarie University) and a certification in Concussion Diagnosis and Management (University of Calgary). I’m interested in helping patients find relief from back pain, migraines, temporomandibular joint disorders plus working with youth athletes, special needs, and disability. I’ve been a chiropractor in Double Bay for five years so far. I’m also a clinical Pilates instructor – I focus on back pain prevention through mat work and reformer Pilates.

How do you keep mobile?

I love being active. I exercise daily! Generally, I go to a gym in Double Bay at least five days per week. I also play touch football three nights per week and do Pilates twice a week. I also love to take my dog for a walk whenever I can too. During lockdown or required periods of self-isolation during COVID, I cycle on my homestationery bicycle every second morning and do Pilates on every other day.

Name one thing you’d recommend the average person does to look after their spinal health:

Keep moving! There is nothing more important than movement for your mind and body. Find exercise you enjoy doing - whether it be a dance class, Pilates, swimming in the ocean, or playing a team sport – it helps make being active fun rather than a chore.

What’s your favourite poor pun or ‘Dad joke’?

 “I’ve got your back!”
